How-To / Offline Maps
Geooh has used vector-based maps for many years... something other Android geocaching apps do not. Geooh also introduces a unique "preloaded maps" option. Let's discuss this...

Offline maps has been a hot topic. Apps like the Groundspeak app automatically downloads trail maps for each offline list. Other Android and iOS apps allow you to download offline maps from different providers. What's wrong with this? Well, unless you have a phone with LOTS of unused storage (gigs) and don't mind switching to different maps each with their own look when offline,... then nothing. But that seems wasteful and cumbersome. Some phones just don't have the free storage for rare instances of offline map needs. Plus, there is extra maintenance on your part to manage those maps and remove them if no longer needed... or they need to be updated with new roads.

How does Geooh do it? Google maps is one the top providers with an extensive collection of maps tiles that are updated daily. On Android, the map tiles are dynamically stored on the phone after showing a map section and retained in a local cache so when displaying that map location again it will use the cached tiles instead of pulling them down from the network. Since they are vector based the stored map can show several zoom levels of each location. When the cache gets large the least used tiles are purged by Android. Very efficient and rarely have we had a map display problem when using Geooh in poor cell reception areas... but it can happen.

So instead of wasting space on your phone with large map downloads for the rare times you may need them, Geooh can preload the map cache for geocaches in a list. You do this by running the Preload Maps task from the popdown menu in the upper right corner of the map. This action will then cause the map to visit each of the cache locations and zoom in/out at each so the map tiles are preloaded in the map cache. You only download for areas needed and they are purged automatically when no longer needed. No need to manage the megs and megs of offline map tiles. This is smart offline maps!
How-To / Shortcuts
Geooh has several shortcuts or quick ways to perform actions. Here are the important ones:

Show details overview of a geocache
Press the Details button (circle with "i" in the middle) on the left side of the cache in a list to quickly show details about it. Or you can select the Show Details task in a pop-up of task actions.

Show the pop-up of task actions for a geocache
Long-press the geocache in a list or press on the information window bubble above a selected cache on the map.
This will show the pop-up of tasks you can perform for the geocache.

Open the map showing a geocache location
When showing a cache summary with the lists of related items for a cache (such as Description, Logs, Attributes, Images, etc) touch the top section of the window that contains the summary. It will open the map with just that geocache in it.

Quickly log a geocache while viewing the map
After selecting a cache, long-press on the information window bubble above it to open the Post a Log task.

Quickly add someone to your friend list
When viewing the list of logs for a geocache, press on a log and select the Add As Friend action task.
How-To / Friends' Logs
If you want to filter the list of logs to show only yours or your friends logs, press the person icon at the bottom of the log list between the REFRESH and MORE buttons. This will filter the logs and display those accordingly. You create your friends list by adding them in settings or by pressing on a log and run the task to add that user to your list.

Sorry, but Groundspeak doesn't authorize 3rd party apps to directly access your friend list created on their web site. So we have to build a separate list.
How-To / Showing Today's Find Count
Want to know how many caches you've found today? Press on the top section of the home screen that contains your name and geocache found count. Geooh will update the count and show the number found today at the bottom of the screen.

How-To / Search Refresh
If you used the Search button on the home screen to create a list of geocaches, you can add to this list when viewing them on the map. Search lists will show a refresh button on the top bar (circle icon with rotating arrows). Pressing this button will refresh the list of caches using the map boundaries, but still keep the original search criteria you used in the search. This let's you manually pan and zoom to locations you want to perform the search for again.

How-To / Optimized Route to Multiple Caches
If you want to travel to several geocaches and want to determine the most efficient route to take (according to Google), long-press on the distance button at the top. This will put you in multiple waypoint selection mode. Press on each geocache you want in the optimized route and when done press the yellow SHOW ROUTE button at the bottom right. This will show the route to take that will highlighted in blue.

How-To / Routes to Geocaches
Sometimes you want to visually see a route to a geocache in a map without opening up Google Navigation for turn-by-turn directions. If you press the distance button on the map (top middle button between the cache location and your location buttons), it will show a route to the cache highlighted in blue. It will also show the estimated time of arrival to the cache. It's a simple, but effective way to help you navigate.

How-To / Showing Action Tasks
Geooh has a comprehensive set of actions (or tasks) you can perform on a geocache... such as posting a log or dropping off a trackable. These tasks show in a pop-up list where you can easily select them. To trigger the pop-up you can either long-press on a geocache in a list or press the info window bubble when selecting the cache on a map. If you long-press the bubble, it will open up the Post a Log task directly without showing the intermediate pop-up of other tasks.
How-To / Highlighting DNFs
When Geooh obtains detailed log information on a geocache it reviews the last log to see if it was a DNF or a note. For a DNF, the icon will show a red DNF overlay on top of it. This is a useful feature to quickly see which geocaches in a list or on a map may be lost. It gives you a chance to inspect more logs or details about the cache before taking the effort to drive to it and search for it.

How-To / Location Stats
When a geocache is selected on a map Geooh will attempt to download location stats for the geocache. At the bottom of the map there is a dark translucent bar that will display the county, city, state, and elevation for the cache. In addition, you can long-press anywhere on the map to display the same information plus location coordinates at that point. This can be useful for county challenges and/or puzzles that require elevation information when you don't have a dedicated GPS that gives elevation readings.

How-To / County Boundaries
Are you a county geocache hunter? Like to get a geocache in every county in a state? Like county challenges?

Well, you are in luck. Geooh is the ONLY geocaching app to automatically show county boundaries on the map. It will show the boundaries for the state you are currently in when opening the map. Available only for USA geocachers though.

How-To / Souvenirs
Do you want to see your geocache souvenirs? Side out the left drawer by swiping right on a screen or press the hamburger icon in the upper left corner of the top bar. In the drawer, press the SHOW SOUVENIRS button. This will display thumbnails of your souvenirs that can be ordered by the souvenir type or by the date you received them. Pressing on a thumbnail image will open a bigger view of the souvenir with some information about it. And from there you can go to the web site to show even more information about the souvenir.
How-To / Messaging other Geocachers
There are two ways to send a message to other geocachers. First, when looking at cache information after selecting one in a list you will see the cache owner's avatar (if they have one) at the bottom of the screen. Pressing it will open up the web browser and go to the website for messaging other users. It will preselect the user so all you need is to enter a message for them. You can also do the same for owners of a log by pressing the log when viewing a list of logs for a geocache.

Unfortunately, Groundspeak doesn't let 3rd party apps access messaging features directly like their official app does. So in the meantime, this is the next best way by going to their web site instead.
How-To / Adding and Deleting
With Geooh's powerful geocache list management you can easily add and delete items in lists. First, you can delete an entire list. Press the red trashcan icon in the lower right floating button on the home screen to enter delete mode. In this mode, a delete icon shows on the right side of a geocache list. Press it and then confirm deletion of the entire list. To get out of delete mode, press the X where the trashcan icon showed in the floating button below.

You can do the same for individual geocaches in a list. Press the trashcan icon on the bottom bar to enter delete mode. Like the home screen, a red delete button then shows on the right side of a geocache. Press it and then confirm it's deletion. This can be useful if you want to unclutter a list and remove geocaches you do not want to go after.

In a similar manner, you can add a waypoint to a list. Press the + icon on the bottom bar to add a waypoint. You may want to do this to add a location for a particular use... maybe where you parked your car or maybe a location you later want to place a geocache.
How-To / Filtering Map Items
Similar to filtering geocache lists in Geooh, you can also filter what geocaches you see on the map. Press the filter button on the bottom bar (second from left) to select which geocache icon types to show. So if you want to see only puzzle caches for example, deselect all icons except for the puzzle one to show only those on the map. Press the filter button again to clear out the filter and restore viewing of all the geocaches.
